Ah, comedy, you gotta love it. It is what I live for. A new comedy club has opened up in the Venetian Shops. High Roller Comedy Club is its name. You can find it inside Smoking Hot Aces on Friday and Saturday nights.
Last night was their opening night. I just had to be there for their first show at 8pm so see if it was going to be funny or not. These guys have performed around Las Vegas for the past year or so and their popularity has driven them to started their own club.
The High Roller of Comedy team consists of Keith Lyle, James Germano, Mike Stigs, and John Barnes. All of them are fresh, new faces in the comedy world and even fresher material. The shows are not limited to the High Rollers, they have nightly guest comics come in to mix it up and there is talk of bringing in some headliners.
The first show at 8pm started off with a bang, but it was apparent some opening night jitters took hold in the middle of some of the routines. By the time the comics finished up they were back on track and had the crowd laughing once again. The 10pm show went almost without a hitch and they killed. Yep, they’re funny. I’ve seen all of these guys perform before and there was lots of new material for last night.
The showroom is a converted bar with long tables where everyone sits together. I like this idea because you get to meet the other people you sit with and make some friends while enjoying some hearty laughs. A laugh shared with new friends is an even better one.
I was totally taken aback when I first sat down. I couldn’t believe it. There were ashtrays on the tables. Thank God my last attempt at quitting smoking didn’t take because I would not have wanted to miss this! Smoking! In frickin’ public! Inside! God bless ‘em. Part of old Las Vegas survives. Bad for me, hardly anyone smoked. I had to wait nearly an hour before one person lit up and I sure as Hell wasn’t going to be the first one to do it. I’m such a chicken. So the place is still safe for the nonsmokers, but smokers don’t have to go outside and down the long hall and find a way outside to grab a quick puff. You can just huddle with some others in a corner and puff together without missing any of the show.
High Roller Comedy Club does have food too. They have some prepackaged sandwiches and a couple desserts on a limited menu. So you can eat, drink alcohol, sodas and smoke when you’re done. Ah, freedom lives. How they can do food and smoking in the same place was confusing for me, but Keith Lyle explained it all to me. They are legal in how they do it and that insane Vegas smoke-free law is too complex to get into here, so I won’t.
There were a lot more people in the club last night than you’d expect for a brand new place, so I think they might have a hit on their hands. I’m sure they’ll end up a packed house once word gets out about Keith Lyle’s connections with the famous likes of Russell Brand, P. Diddy, Jona Hill, Elisabeth Moss, just to name a few he has worked with in the movies. We all know stars love to just pop in to their buddy’s business to stir things up. I know Russell Brand and P. Diddy both are frequently in Vegas. So I’m guessing this is going to be the hot club for some celebrity spotting by surprise.
I got to meet Photo Diva, a photographer in Las Vegas that is a very popular girl to follow on Twitter in Vegas (@photodivalv). She shared some gossip and some laughs and it was great fun to get to know that wild woman.
High Roller Comedy Club is a fun place and I highly recommend checking it out soon. Here is a coupon to get you in half price.
